Troy Backhouse (t-bac) is a multi-discipline design studio focusing on authentic, sustainable design, based in Fitzroy with products predominantly made in Melbourne to support local manufacture.

With no signature style, in part due to being exposed to other cultures for a long period of time, inspiration is sought from unique and unusual places to enliven perceptions of objects around us.

Each piece begins with curiosity and passion, guided by material exploration as a way of discovering new forms of expression and creating objects that invite lasting human connection. Designs are then refined in close collaboration with manufacturers and craftspeople, bringing together function, individuality, and sustainability.
