t-bac design under troy backhouse is a multi-discipline design studio. New ideas and materials are continually researched and applied to furniture and products with no belief in limitations but rather solved through intelligent design solutions. Interior and exterior design projects are also an integral part of t-bac design either completed entirely in house or managed in collaboration with specialists in other design disciplines.
These skills have been brought together through the combination of university (BA design) and trade (traditional signwriting) backgrounds often blurring the worlds of design and art. The completion of a signwriting trade in Melbourne in 1992 was to form the basis of diverse manufacturing skills, material knowledge and fine artistic skills . In 1998 he ventured to London working on a variety of projects for clients such as Harrods, Belgos and The British Museum in the form of interior and exterior installations, signwriting, and murals. A number of months were spent on restoration work at the British Museum (entrance foyer and reading room) and for the Kings College Chapel at Kings college London. On return to Australian he returned to complete a multi discipline design degree at Monash University focused in industrial design which is where he discovered his passion for furniture and products. During this time he was selected to complete a Master Class with Tom Kovac at the Powerhouse museum and undertook a short course in Prato, Italy with Monash University. All the disciplines are now being brought together to come up with unique design solutions for a broad spectrum of clientele.
